Specialties: Individual
Alexandra Pool, LPC (she/her/hers), is a licensed professional counselor specializing in clients with eating disorders and body image issues in addition to those struggling with anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, and difficult life transitions. Through her approach as a relational therapist, she is able to connect with her clients in an authentic and dynamic way. She finds that an empathic and genuine relationship with one's therapist is pivotal to fostering growth and empowerment in each client.
It is her hope that by being a non-judgmental professional she can create a safe and nurturing space that allows each client to work towards developing confidence and acceptance in one’s relationship with food, their bodies, and their emotions. Alexandra has helped many clients heal from perfectionism and the toxic effects of diet culture. She recognizes that unlearning the beliefs instilled by diet culture and our appearance obsessed society is HARD. Her approach is rooted in the principles of Health at Every Size™ and she is committed to working with clients to cultivate an intuitive relationship with food and their body. Alexandra recognizes that a critical piece of eating disorder recovery is a strong support system. She emphasizes the importance of providing psycho-education around eating disorders and coaching around neutral language around nutrition and body size as a means of offering support to a loved one who is struggling with an eating disorder. She coaches family members, partners, roommates, and parents around the in’s-and-out’s of eating disorder recovery and how to set boundaries in supportive, appropriate ways with a loved one who is struggling.
Alexandra provides guidance to clients through use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on how to gain self-acceptance while building sustainable self-care practices and increasing emotional tolerance. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, she helps clients create new pathways in the brain, new patterns in daily habits, and new ways of being with oneself. She recognizes that each journey into therapy takes bravery, willingness, and vulnerability - as a therapist her goal is to create a trusting space for each client to be authentically seen and heard.
