Specialties: Individual, Couples
My name is Leona Pierce (she/her/hers) and I believe there is innate potential to grow and change within all of us. I believe by nurturing ourselves and this potential, we can reveal a way toward the future we aspire to. I love working with individuals and couples who may feel frustrated, stuck or discouraged by their circumstances, emotions, relationships, patterns of behavior, or history, yet are seeking a way to make a change in their lives. I specialize in addressing anxiety, depression, and symptoms born of trauma.
My approach is genuine, welcoming and conversational. Sessions with me address the present and the past, using both to make connections and cultivate insight into patterns of thought or behavior. I practice cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness based cognitive therapy with a humanistic approach, meeting people where they are with unconditional positive regard. I believe we are more than just the sum of our parts, that we are whole beings capable of overcoming hardship and pain, and that we are able to change and create the fulfillment in life we desire.
My goal is to create a space of empathy and unconditional positive regard to promote self-esteem and trust in one's own judgment and ability. I strive to provide a truly comprehensive therapy experience, identifying and addressing all the elements contributing to the situation, achieving a holistic perspective. I believe by recognizing and respecting the interconnection and interdependence of our thoughts, feelings and actions, we are able to gain insight and unlock potential that may be the catalyst for change we are seeking.
What I love most about being a therapist is witnessing the moments when clients reveal or recognize their own uniqueness; their singular individual potential. There is nothing more rewarding than watching as that potential unfolds and fosters confidence and a greater sense of self, allowing for a fuller expression of individuality. Outside of therapy I spend my time practicing yoga, gardening, running, reading and romping around outdoors with my dogs and family.
