Specialties: Individual, Family
Hi! I’m Katie Bongiorno (she/her/hers) and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I received my BA from the University of Delaware where I majored in interpersonal communication and minored in fine art. I received my Master’s degree from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and was honored to be inducted into the Alpha Eta Honor Society.
I work primarily with clients who are struggling with anxiety, ADHD, self-esteem, childhood issues, body image, parenting, life transitions, and dysfunctional generational dynamics. I work with kids, teens, young adults, parents, and individual women to help them develop a deeper understanding of themselves to evolve into who they want to become. I support my clients in creating, shifting, and understanding their relationships with themselves and with those in their lives.
Clients who work with me will have a partner along their path of self-discovery. As a therapist I am collaborative, engaged, warm, empowering, and funny. I incorporate elements from cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, structural family therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, relational life therapy, attachment theory and Gottman therapy. I use many types of approaches in my work including: executive function coaching; creative art/play techniques; mindfulness; use of worksheets; interacting with my dog, Henry; humor and appropriate self-disclosure.
Sessions will initially consist of getting to know you, your situation, your history and goal setting. We then identify and address barriers to meeting your goals which can include pre-existing narratives, dysfunctional relational dynamics, unhelpful coping mechanisms, ineffective communication styles, and limited self-awareness. In other words: create awareness, cultivate insight, process experiences, make changes; rinse and repeat.
In my free time I’m likely dilly dallying. I can also be found crafting, reorganizing something (again), spending time with family/friends, exploring, gardening, watching Philly sports or birding.
